Eating in Lapland, It's not just about survival between dogsledding trips. During my stay, I wanted to experience some truly authentic Lapland cuisine: fine dining, a completely unique concept, or a local institution—I tried all three, and frankly, I absolutely had to tell you about these places. Two are quite upscale, while the last is much more affordable. Let me tell you all about it.
Wildwoods, at the Aito Resort restaurant
First stop: the Wildwoods restaurant at the Aito Resort. The atmosphere is incredibly cozy, almost gourmet, with candles everywhere and raw wood. But I absolutely have to tell you about their wild Finnish mushroom soup. It's simply incredible! Seriously, so incredible that I went back to Finland a second time just to eat it again. If you only have time to try one dish there, make it this one, without a doubt.
We also tried their fish, which was very good. On my second visit, I had the salmon soup, which I liked a little less, and a pretty good burger, with a really great chocolate dessert to finish. Expect to pay around €80 per person, so yes, it's a bit pricey. But the mushroom soup alone makes it definitely worth it!

The Invisible Lodge & Spa
Second spot: the restaurant at the Invisible Lodge & Spa, where I went with my brother. The concept is original: here, you can enjoy the sauna before sitting down to eat, and the atmosphere is incredibly cozy and intimate. We didn't try the spa this time, just dinner, but the meal alone is worth the trip: you cook your own salmon at the table, on a heated volcanic stone, and you marinate it exactly how you like it. It was really fun, and the salmon was delicious!
Price-wise, it's in the same range as Wildwoods, around €70-80 per person. But if I ever go back to Rovaniemi, it's definitely a place I'd return to without hesitation.

The Salmon Restaurant, an institution in the heart of Santa Claus Village
Last stop, and a total change of atmosphere: off to Santa's village, for a restaurant that does not belong to any hotel but is clearly worth the detour, there is very often a queue, and honestly, it's understandable.
What to do in Rovaniemi.
Here, everything revolves around a single dish: salmon cooked over a wood fire, served in a small wooden cabin reminiscent of a traditional lavvu. The salmon is generous and delicious: truly nothing like what you find in France.
One small drawback, though: the soup was much better elsewhere in the village. But for salmon, it's considered one of the best restaurants in all of Rovaniemi. And price-wise, it's a bit more reasonable: around €25 a plate.

Three culinary experiences in Lapland, three completely different atmospheres: fine dining, an immersive experience, or a local institution. Which one would you try first?
FAQ: Culinary experiences in Lapland and where to eat in Rovaniemi
What are the best gourmet restaurants in Rovaniemi?
How much does a restaurant meal cost in Rovaniemi?
Peut-on manger halal à Rovaniemi ?
